Kiln Dryers

Compact Wood Drying Kiln

Our fully compact wood drier will kiln dry 12 cmt3 of wood at a temperature between 45–55°C and is fully insulated by a 40mm steel lining, including the flooring, which has 100mm insulation, this ensures that no heat is not lost during the process.

This fully mobile dryer can be placed anywhere with a weight of just 3.5 tons, it is truly plug and go.

Drying Fans 4 x 355mm Compact design created by combining the four motors with the matched direct drive wrap-around impeller hub with speed controls with mounting plate, motor support and finger-proof guard protected by cataphoresis primer and black polyester paint finish. Stainless steel screws According to ISO 1940 standards, impellers are dynamically balanced, giving vibration-free operation. All the motors are IP65, have Class F insulation, and are equipped with thermal protection.
ElectricalSingle phase 230V-50Hz. Fire Resistant, Zero Halogen, Low Smoke Cables
Exhorts FanUnlike conventional wood dries, we use an exhortation fan to remove the stale moisture from the wood and bring fresh air from the rear vent.
Electrical SupplyAll fans are wired with fire/heatproof cabling with the speed control system.
Speed2350 x 4 (r.p.m.) Total of 9400 (m3/H) Our speed controllers will reduce the fan speed so you can adjust the airflow temperature.
Maximum ElectricThe total of all watts used (785) in all the kiln costs is around £20-30 per week, depending on what electricity tariffs you’re on.
External FinishMatt Black Heat Resistant Paint
Inline 27Kw Heater:This has been modified for our 20ft container, which can heat air intake with a stainless-steel inner lining firebox. Small-sized inline heaters. It is ideal for areas that require quick heating or constant all-day heat. The onboard fan will move around 2200m3/hr of air. As a guide, if the area to be heated is 15m x 15m and 2.3m high, the air volume will pass through 4.25 times in 1 hour. So, the whole volume of that space will be reheated 4¼ times every hour. This is ideal in applications where external doors are open and closed regularly.
Heat output:Approx 8kg - The fuel consumption per 90 minutes - Maxim heats 95°C – Air heat exchanger input around 2200. (M3/H). fitted with an alarm when the temperature reaches 97 Degrees Equipped with 2 x Exhaust ports 180mm, all done with a fully double insulation lining 5mtrs stainless steel chimney.
Fuelling:Wood for burning in the space heater can come in many forms; the most essential point is that it is dry. Small kindling will be needed to light the heater, and then large wood sections will be required for continuous operation. It’s a straightforward and swift operation. Heaters have two front doors, the lower for access to remove ash whilst the upper door allows access for fuelling of the dry wood point for continuous heating.
Heat output control:The in-line heaters have two air control flaps, an upper (secondary air) vent and a lower (primary air) vent. The primary air flap is adjusted by turning a knob to increase or decrease the burning speed. In contrast, the upper secretary air control mixes air with the burning gasses to improve the burning efficiency.
Automatic activation:The inline heater includes a simple and easy-to-use control activation system. When the onboard temperature sensor detects heat in the upper chamber, it automatically starts the air distribution fans, which bring in cold air from the bottom of the unit, heat this, then expel the warm air out of the distribution top vent ports.
Cleaning and maintenance:How often you clean the hot air heater depends on the fuel used and the quantity burnt. However, the system is designed to run for long periods between larger cleans, and smaller de-ashing can be as little as once per week.
Internal Insulation:All sides of the container are fully insulated with 40mm of steel lining. External flooring is 100mm insulated with 25mm marine ply interior flooring.
Internal build:All internal build frames are fully galvanised to stop internal moisture from penetrating for a long life.
Air circulation:We have given this drier the maximum air flow we can of a Maximum of 16,500 (m3/H), but with the variable speed control, we can reduce this to 10,000(m3h) or lower.
Power usage:With the speed control system, the total usage with fan and inline boiler 11amps maxim amp 16 amps Power supply costs are around £6-8 per day, depending on your tariff.
Internal size:Area internally (H=2200mm) x (W=2200mm) x (L=4500mm)

Kiln Trials

We have been trialling our kiln for over 6 months now, using Hornbeam, Ash, and Oakwood.

We tried to give an all-round trial of the various wood types, using 16% Ash, 18% Hornbeam, and 22% Oak with an average moisture contents of 29% – 31%.

These tests were in metal stillages over the course of three working days (8) total of (24Hrs) at 45-68°C.  Our 27Kw air-to-air heater that we had modified by the manufacturers gave a steady heat over 2-3hrs with a full firebox of kiln dried firewood which gave us good heat content (total amount of wood over 3hrs = 8-10kgs).
